The Annals of Tiglath-pileser I are written in cuneiform using the Assyrian dialect of Akkadian. The inscription was recovered by German archaeologists and is preserved today in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin (VAT 13833).

The annals ask: "Is it possible for a wild ass to escape a hunter sent by the divine assembly?" The protagonist in the parable is Tiglath-pileser I who is cast as a hunter [Akkadian: ba'iru]. The antagonist is the ruler of Murattash and Saradaush, who is a wild ass [Akkadian: imeri sadi]. The hunter stalks the ass into the mountains (Gen 16:12), where a fierce battle takes place. There is a graphic description of the ripping open of the wombs of pregnant women, a military tactic that kills soldiers to be born. Another version of these annals appears on a cylinder carved in year 5 of his reign (ARI 2.25).
